It should never be underestimated how the power of giving back to others helps yourself ( mind, body, and spirit)! I heard a news story about a 6 year old retiree who builds homes for Habitat for Humanity.
He spoke of how after he retired from a job he had been at for 38 years, he looked forward to time off, but felt unfulfilled and quickly, depression set in. He began to feel negative health effects and worried that he would just waste away. Then a friend who knew he had an ability and interest in home building/management asked if he would get involved in a Habitat house. That opportunity changed his life…and he helped someone else create a new home. A win-win.
Give it a try. Mentor someone. Volunteer your time in an activity that sparks your interest. Donate your services. Give back. Good health is a lot about eating well and exercising, but it is also about stimulating your mind and your soul!
