11/3/11 Katie's Healthy Eating Journal: Thursday

Today is a very long day for me.  I will be working a 12 hour work day.  It's that time of year again - conferences.  This makes for an exhausting day and a long week.  It doesn't just end today either; another 12 hour day will be on Monday too so we can finish up conferences.  The problem with working so late and being so busy is I barely have time to eat.  Ensuring that I get my dinner in is vital otherwise I won't eat until almost 10 o'clock.  Eating regularly is very important to a weight loss diet.  Why?  Eating regularly helps control your blood-sugar level so you never get too hungry and go into starvation mode where your body begins to store your calories as fat.  Typically once you get into that extremley hungry phase you're more likely to grab anything (ie. a piece of candy, slice of cheddar cheese, etc.) because you're weak and irritable and trying to quickly rectify the situation.  Skipping meals also causes your body to eat away at muscle.  Your muscle is the key to burning away fat because it plays a large role in the speed of your metabolism!  Needless to say, I have got to squeeze in dinner sometime tonight - even if it's a bite here and there.
